Think before you buy mangoes

Mangoes are the favourite fruit for most of the people and we wait for the mango season. The mangoes are much in need that people are ready to buy mangoes at any price. Are you sure that the mangoes you buy at such huge price are good?

A few days before we have read in the newspaper, warning the mango lovers to be careful when buying mangoes. The reason for it is that the mangoes that are sold are chemically treated.

So as to cater to the increasing demands of ripe mangoes the mango sellers seek the help of chemicals to make them ready for selling. It has been found that tons of mangoes were distributed in to various parts of the city were treated with harmful chemical known as the calcium carbide powder. But, why do they need the chemicals to ripen the mangoes? Most of the mangoes are plucked before reaching maturity and these mangoes cannot ripen naturally hence the vendors seek the help of chemicals. These chemically ripened mangoes are hazardous to the health.

Mangoes are known as the king of fruits not just because they are heavenly delicious but they are nutritious and rich in Vitamin A which is good for health. All these benefits are lost when they are chemically treated. Not just that they won’t have any nutrition, but they are harmful. The common problems caused when you consume these adulterated mangoes are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and skin rashes.

You can understand if the mangoes that you are buying are organic or chemically treated ones. Trust your three senses, smell, touch and vision, and go ahead

  • Organic mangoes are always multicoloured with mixed patches of green, red and yellow all over it. While other mangoes will be uniform coloured and looks very appealing. So always keep in mind not to go behind the looks of the mangoes
  • Always touch and feel the mangoes before you buy them. Organic mangoes will be soft, juicy and fleshy whereas chemically ripened will be hard to touch
  • Lastly and most important thing is the fragrance. When a mango ripens you get to know with its aromatic smell filling the air. The organic mangoes will be aromatic and the other mangoes there will be no smell at all, in fact it will smell like garlic.

Another thing you can do is to buy mangoes from reliable sources like ‘Bappa fruits’. Here you can be sure that all the mangoes are handpicked and organically grown.  Don’t wait just log on to the website and order a box of Hapoos and bite into it and enjoy this delicious fruit.
