- Touch and feel- It is very important to touch and feel the mangoes to make sure that you choose the right mango that is not too raw and not too ripe. When you touch ripe mangoes you will be able to feel that they will be slightly soft and tender. If you don’t want too ripe mangoes you can go for mangoes that are little firm to touch. You can keep these mangoes at home for a few days and you can eat ripe mangoes within a few days.
- Trust the smell- It is the smell of mangoes that often attract us towards them. It is the same thing that lets you know whether they are ripe or not. Smell the mangoes near its stem; it will have a very good aromatic fruity fragrance. This fruity fragrance tells you that those mangoes are not chemically treated. A chemically treated mango will have no smell or will smell like alcohol.
- Check each mango well- Always take care to choose mangoes that are oblong in shape. Never choose the mangoes that look good or those which are uniform in colour. Chemically treated mangoes have uniform yellow colour all over it, though they will look appealing, those mangoes will not be ripe inside as well. So don’t go by the looks of the mangoes. Also don’t choose the mangoes that have wrinkled skin, mangoes that are chemically ripened will have wrinkles on its skin. Some mangoes will have brown spots on them, those spots are normal and you can use those mangoes.
