Different Types of Delicious Mangoes in India

In India, summers are long and hot. Even though, people suffer from the scorching heat they wait for the summers as they want to enjoy the taste of their favourite fruit, Mango.  For many, especially for the kids, summer stands for mangoes and mangoes only, even grown-ups eagerly wait for the beginning of mango season. Mango, truly the king of fruits is simply loved by people all over the world.

The hot summers in India provide the perfect climate for different varieties of mangoes to grow.  India exports mangoes to most of the European countries. Different types of mangoes are grown and are available all over India, but the most famous among them are Alphonso mangoes, Kesar, Totapuri and more. Let us look into a few popular varieties of mangoes that are available in India.

Alphonso Mango

One of the favourite varieties of mangoes is grown mostly in the Konkan region in Ratnagiri and parts of Devgad in Maharashtra. Being the organically grown mangoes, they are highly-tasty as well as expensive. The aroma of ripe Alphonso Mangoes is enough to lure you to them. Their beautiful yellow colour with green patches is attractive with their sweet saffron coloured flesh which would make you want to eat more.

Kesar Mango

The second most popular variety of mango is the Kesar Mango, grown in the Gujarat. These mangoes are famous for their unique sweet taste and are golden in colour. Compared to Alphonso they are smaller and can be called as the queen of mangoes.

Totapuri Mango

This is the most popular variety of mango available in the southern states of India. These mangoes are for people who don’t prefer to eat too sweet mangoes. These mangoes are not that sweet when compared to Alphonso or Kesar varieties. Totapuri mangoes are large in size and have a beak like pointed end and are known for their nutritional value.

A range of varieties of mangoes are available in India making it impossible to name and describe them all. But some of the other famous varieties are Neelam, Banganpalli, Payri, Rajpuri, Mankruad, Kishenbhog, Himasagar and more. All these varieties have peculiar tastes and look different. But every type of mango has admirers who wait patiently for their favourite variety of mango to reach them in the summers.
